Definition of Avascular Necrosis
The death of bone tissue due to a lack of blood supply to the bone tissue, also known as osteonecrosis. While this can happen to any bone tissues in the body, the most common place of occurrence is at the hip joint.
How do we get it
This is because when we sit, we are bending the hip joint and if it is in that position for a long time, the blood vessels get compressed and constricted for long periods, and this leads to avascular necrosis. The lockdowns during the pandemic restricted movement and many were forced to adopt a very sedentary lifestyle, sitting down watching TV, playing computer games, video games, phone games, social media and just lazing around, scrunching up the hip joint for prolonged periods of time everyday.
Usually, the head of the femur collapses and small bits start breaking off, due to a lack of blood supplied.
We have treated 2 cases of avascular necrosis of the hip successfully, in that we took away the excruciating pain immediately by lessening the weight of the body supported by the joint, by encouraging the ligaments and tendons to support the body weight, then we taught exercises to alleviate the pressure and compression of the hip joint, which increases the blood flow to the corresponding area.
The hip heals completely in a few weeks. Surgery (hip replacement) is not necessary at all.
Case No. 1 – Veronica Cheng.
Immediate relief, came back for a check up a week later, no more pain.
Case No. 2 – Ms. Azarigo Ramrap from France.
She came to visit her mother in KL over the Hari Raya Haji. Her mother brought her to my Holistic Centre for treatment and she came supporting herself with 2 crutches. Ms. Ramrap made the appointment just before she left France.
Her hip was more damaged than Veronica’s and her femur head has a chip with a small piece missing already, so her condition was more advanced and serious. However, she responded very well to our holistic treatment where we lessened the burden for her hip to carry, and then loosened the joint further to encourage blood flow into the affected area.
She left with no pain, carrying her crutches (instead of her crutches carrying her), and due to come back for one more check up before returning to France.
No hip replacement was necessary in both cases, although that was what their orthopedics recommended. Both happy endings.
