To recap from Chapter One, “Man, and the World GOD created”, we have established that man has progressed at a tremendous pace in all things materialistic, but has only plodded along the path of understanding our very purpose of existing in this world, this realm.
An analogy would be a child all grown up strong, big, and intelligent, yet devoid of an understanding of his purpose or of an aim, and because of that, devoid also of values that come with understanding the purpose of their existence.
Extrapolate that into a country (or countries), with the military might to destroy anyone who stood in its way, indeed, to destroy the world, and at the same time, possessing the power and potential to save the world from hunger, natural disasters, man-caused disasters (global warming, population explosion etc.) and even cosmic mishaps, but being steered by the elite who only want to enrich themselves at the cost of the poor have-nots.
There is a saying … “Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely”, the cornerstone and product of rabid capitalism. Many who extol the virtues of democracy are actually fueling runaway capitalism, by misinforming and using the unsuspecting masses collectively known as the “electorate”.
Think about it. The rich and the powerful controls everything, and that includes the press and media. The emphasis for these people has always been “ME” … the “I” factor that takes the centrestage in Capitalism.
The famous test ran by an Economics professor by finding the average grade in his class and awarding the whole class with the average grade. When the “A” student got a “B”, it demotivated him, and when the bad students got the “B” average instead of the “F” they deserved, they partied even more and studied even less … and so it went on until the whole class failed, and that became the epitome of the failure of the Socialist/ Communistic system, and the virtues of Capitalism were further extolled. More pizzazz seen to support the ways of the rich and famous !
This is a very bad comparison to a real socialist system of governance, and here are the reasons and observations why.
Firstly, the students should get the grades they deserve according to strict standards of meritocracy. However, if some borderline failures had actually studied hard but failed marginally, the top scorers should have the option to share a mark or two with these coursemates, rather than being dished out by the University professor as in the above case. Then, again, the top (and others who passed) scorers should not be coerced to share their marks.
In ancient Chinese texts, there were references made by the sages to a “Heaven on Earth” where people of really superior character lived, a “Jun Zi Guo”. Here, everyone treated everyone else better than they treated themselves and their families, and the Emperor would let anyone who proved to be worthy to succeed his throne, and not pass it down automatically to his sons and offspring.
Everyone would do things with the greater good of the community in mind first of all, and would share willingly what they have with the more needy members of the society. The inhabitants being of strong moral fibre and conviction of character and conscience, will do all this and be happy that they can help others less fortunate than themselves. The difference between this and the students sharing grades and getting an overall average grade is obvious.
In this case, the people are happy they can help others (and they were also recognized for their philantrophy as well), while in the students’ case, they were forced to conform to a system of averaging and the good hardworking students got no credit for their hard work and diligence, whilst the tardy lazy ones got all the benefits.
Therefore, while state controlled or state sponsored communism will never work, and can never be seamlessly and fairly implemented, as the communist politburo itself will hold all the power, and will be the place where all the power-brokering and corruption will take place, naturally.
We digress, but we needed to put up the parameters and check whether the truth can stand up to close scrutiny.
Now we know that the rich and elite are those who walk the corridors of power, and in this day and age, has control and/ or influence of world finance, world economics, and all major industries of the world. They have also devised an education system that can churn out workers and consumers for their businesses to enrich themselves further, and to ensure a self-sustaining ecosystem for their industries.
In the ancient past, kids were sent to school to learn right from wrong, to inculcate moral and social values and to train up their moral fibre and conscience. We were happy and proud when our kids led upright lives, but now, we are only talking about grades, marks, going to good Universities, getting into good jobs or careers, and making big money.
Should we then be surprised with the moral decadence that has crept into our existence as a direct result of our loss of focus in education ?? However, this suits our elite down to the ground as people of weak moral fibre are very malleable and easily influenced and controlled.
The rat race is another system laid in place to squeeze every drop of blood from all the workers in any economy. Who benefits the most from the industriousness of all the workers in an economy?? The shareholders and the government (taxes), who are mostly members of the elite, of course.
The next installment will deal with the predicament of the have-nots and how they can break out from under their glass ceiling.
